Because of an injury, Bianca Andreescu had to sit out the 2020 season entirely. However, slowly but steadily, she is now building her momentum back in the 2021 season. Although she hasn’t made a major impact, except finishing runner-up in Miami, she has been confident about her tennis. And now, she seems ready for the 2021 Indian Wells Masters, to defend her 2019 title.
Due to the coronavirus spread, the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open got canceled last year. Moreover, the event also shifted from its traditional March date to October 2021 because of the pandemic. Hence, the 2019 champion Andreescu will come out as the defending champion after 932 days.
Notably, Andreescu won the Indian Wells in 2019 as an 18-year-old unseeded player. She defeated Angelique Kerber 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the final. Now, she is looking forward to playing in the desert again.
Bianca Andreescu addresses fans before Indian Wells title-defense
Bianca said, “After two and a half years, I’m finally back in tennis paradise. And, I am more excited than ever, and I can’t for you guys to come to watch me play.”

Consequently, young players have a massive opportunity to make the most of this situation. Hence, Andreescu, too, has a good chance to pull defend her title after two and a half years.
Andreescu missed out on the Canadian Open title-defense
Earlier, the 21-year-old Canadian also came out to defend her 2019 Rogers Cup title. However, she lost in the third round against Ons Jabeur 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1.
Hopefully, the time spent on the court will help her play confidently in the desert. But with the teenagers Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez also in the draw, it would still be an exciting tournament.
Do you think Andreescu will rise to defend her title in WTA 1000 Indian Wells 2021? The tournament starts on 6th October 2021.
