Lakers star Anthony Davis’ response to playing more center

Lakers, Anthony Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers had their first media day on Tuesday, with superstar Anthony Davis one of the first players to conduct interviews with reporters. One of the burning questions he was asked is where exactly he’ll play this season after spending most of 2020/21 at power forward.

Per ClutchPoints’ Michael Corvo:

This definitely makes sense for the Lakers given their lack of productivity at center last season from the likes of Andre Drummond and Marc Gasol. LA did bring in both Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan this summer, but they’ll probably back up AD.

After all, Davis’ game fits best at the five. He’s a force around the rim but also versatile enough to guard several positions on the floor. Offensively, his mid-range game is nice but he can also use his length to rise above and finish at the cup with aggression.

Like the Lakers star said, nothing is set in stone. But it’s certainly not a bad idea to try AD out at center because he is comfortable with it. Davis is undoubtedly the best player they have at the position though therefore it only makes sense to use the 28-year-old where he will thrive most. After all, two of his most successful seasons at the NBA level were at the five during his time with the Pelicans. This is the right decision by the Lakers and I’m sure LeBron James will love it as well.
