Lionel Messi is blown away after netting his first Paris Saint-Germain goal.

It wasn’t just an ordinary Tuesday at Parc des Princes as PSG thumped English Premier League giants Manchester City 2-0 to put the club on top of their UEFA Champions League group.

Idrissa Gueye made the opening remark for PSG after hitting the back of the net on the 8th minute but the biggest story of the game was Lionel Messi’s second half goal.

Messi had just recovered from a knee problem that saw him being sidelined in PSG’s last two matches. However, the 34-year-old showed no signs of difficulty and notched his first goal as a Parisian.

Speaking after the game, a “very happy” Messi revealed how important it is for him to finally make his mark on his new team.

“I’m very happy to have scored,” Messi told Canal+ post-game via The Guardian. “I hadn’t been able to play recently and this was only my second game in this stadium. I’m adapting to my new team. The more we [PSG] forwards play together, the better our relationship will be. We all need to grow together and improve and keep giving our best.”

“They were great opponents. It was very important for us to win the match after our [opening] draw against Brugge,” the Argentine continued. “I really wanted to get out there. I haven’t played much. I’m still getting used to my teammates, the team, and today was an important moment.”

PSG will try to extend its unbeaten record at Ligue 1 as the team faces its French rivals Rennes on Sunday.
