Rafael Nadal makes shocking admission ahead of much-awaited return

Rafael Nadal, Tennis, Australian Open

Rafael Nadal remains confident that he will be able to get back to his old form despite recently being halted by injuries.

This season has been difficult for Rafael Nadal, having missed the Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics. He attempted to make a stunning comeback at the ATP 500 tournament in Washington but instead, a foot discomfort hindered him from performing at his best.

However, the 20-time Grand Slam champion vows to pull off another statement comeback when he set foot at Abu Dhabi next month.

Ahead of the exhibition event, Nadal opened up about how difficult the past months have been for an ageing player like him both mentally and emotionally.

”When you get a bit older, the feelings are different in all terms,” Nadal confessed via Tennis World USA. “But at the same time, even today, I had a very tough period of time in terms of my foot injury. So I need to come back hopefully by the beginning of next year. Of course, I’m going to have some doubts, but I know the process, I have been there plenty of times.”

“It’s true that every time as you get older it gets more difficult [to recover] but I am very excited by the process and by the things that I have to do to try to be back,” he continued. “So, even with doubts, I am confident that if I am able to play without much pain, I will have my chances.”

Nadal’s plan is to have a good warm-up in the exhibition event in Abu Dhabi before heading to the Australian Open next year.
