Warriors star Klay Thompson reveals critical next step before big return in 2021-22

Warriors, Klay Thompson

Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson is nearing his return, but there are a few things he must do in the coming weeks to get closer to playing competitive NBA basketball.

During his appearance on the NBA’s Media Day on Monday, Thompson shared the checkpoints he has to hit in the upcoming days heading to the 2020-21 season. For the Warriors’ sharpshooter, being able to play 1-on-1 and 5-on-5 basketball are his next steps before suiting up for the team, per Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

Klay Thompson is not expected to play at the start of the 2021-22 season, so there is certainly no rush in his recovery. However, it will certainly be beneficial for him to taste full basketball action sooner rather than later since it will help him get his conditioning right and be game-ready when his number is called upon.

It’s still uncertain when he’ll suit up for the Warriors. However, his teammate and fellow Splash Bro. Stephen Curry shared earlier during Media Day that Thompson should feel ready to play by Thanksgiving or early December.

Thompson has missed the past two seasons due to injuries. He tore his ACL during the 2019 Finals, which cost him the whole 2019-20 campaign. During the offseason heading to 2020-21, he then ruptured an Achilles tendon that sidelined him for another year.

It is definitely difficult to come back from such devastating injuries, so it’s not surprising why Thompson and the Warriors are being cautious. With that said, though, it sure looks like Klay is doing everything he can to be able to help and contribute to the Dubs as fast as he can.
